Filling the global food basket
Professor Alan Cork, an award winning expert in the challenging environment of pest control in food production, will be sharing some of his findings and hopes for the future of farming in the developing world at a free lecture at the University of Greenwich at Medway.
The lecture, In The Farmers’ Shadow: Bio-Rational Pest Management for International Development, will be held in the Pilkington Lecture Theatre, University of Greenwich at Medway, Chatham Maritime, on Tuesday September 15, at 6pm.
Professor Cork is Head of the Natural Resources Institute’s Agriculture, Health and Environment Group, based at the Medway campus. In 2005 he was awarded a Professorship in Bio-Rational Pest Management in recognition of his contribution to the field of chemical ecology and at the 2009 International Integrated Pest Management symposium he won an award for his contribution to pesticide-free aubergine production.
He has been actively engaged not only in scientific endeavour but also with commercial companies, researchers and non-governmental organisations to find pest control solutions for farmers in Africa, South America and South Asia.
The University of Greenwich at Medway‘s Professorial lectures are very popular so it is important to reserve places, a maximum of four per booking, in advance.
