A celebration of talent as student work goes on show

A1826-Summer-ShowsFinal year shows of student work are being held across the University of Greenwich this summer, with over a thousand students putting their degree and diploma projects on display.

Highlights include web sites, digital video, 3D animations and computer games, all designed by Digital Media students in the School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences, at the MediaRay degree show on the Greenwich Campus which begins on Thursday, June 3. This show will be an exciting visual experience, with the likes of the Jumping Man, by 25 year old Benjamin Parmentier, on exhibition. The Digital Creativity & Digital Futures student described the inspiration for this graphics piece as being: “Adrenaline and the excitement and rush in every part of the body associated with it.”

Colourful screen prints, textiles, ceramics, photography and digital media artworks made by trainee teachers and their pupils will mark the end of term in the School of Education & Training on the Avery Hill Campus from Wednesday, June 23.

Flooding in the Thames estuary is one of the problems tackled by students of Landscape Architecture, while the Architecture summer exhibition showcases the work of students at every level, from first year BA to Masters. Both are in the Queen Anne Court on the Greenwich campus, with the first show starting on Monday, June 28. There’s also a show for Graphic & 3D Digital Design graduates running from Thursday, June 3, taking place in Brick lane as part of the Free Range graduate Art & Design show.

Law students will exhibit their skills in a different way by demonstrating their ability to make a legal argument in an end-of-year gala moot. Margaret Mountford, a lawyer and star of BBC1’s The Apprentice will present an elegant silver trophy to the winning team.

Drama students also staged their own show when they took to the boards earlier this summer. They put on eight productions including a musical; monologues and comedies; and a play about identity, history and culture called l, Gone Too Far by Greenwich graduate Bola Agbaje.

All the degree shows are open to the public and are expect to attract a large number of guests, including local residents, businesses, friends and families.

Professor Simon Jarvis, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Development, at the University of Greenwich, says: “This season of shows is a fantastic celebration of the talent, creativity and achievements of our students. I am delighted that they have such strong portfolios of work, which demonstrate their abilities to potential employers, who will be among the guests at each exhibition.

“These degree shows are also a reflection of the skills and commitment of the university’s staff, who have worked so hard to help students to develop their potential. Congratulations to everyone.”
