Research Assessment Exercise
This exercise is conducted nationally to assess the quality of UK research, and to inform the selective distribution of public funds for research by the four UK higher education funding bodies.
The UK national RAE is conducted jointly by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the Scottish Funding Council, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and the Department for Employment and Learning, Northern Ireland.
2008 Results
Almost 200 of our academic staff were entered into the 2008 RAE in a variety of fields ranging from Civil Engineering and Computer Science & Informatics to Development Studies and Business & Management Studies.
We are very proud of the results that showed that 65% of the research we submitted was recognised to be of at least international standard in terms of originality, significance and rigour.
In fact, nine of our 19 research areas were judged to be carrying out research of the very highest quality - world leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour.
